Mirza Akhtar Ali: Mirza Akhtar Ali is
the senior partner of the firm and an advocate of the High Court. Mirza
Akhtar Ali is a seasoned professional in the field of law having over 30
years of experience in this field. He is a member of
various professional associations including the Income Tax Bar
Association and the Sindh High Court Bar Association. He was also elected
as the General Secretary of the Income Tax Bar Association Karachi in
1989. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Taxation Management,
Pakistan and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries,
Pakistan. Mirza Akhtar Ali has
advised the firm's clients on a variety of complex legal matters
pertaining to direct and indirect taxes, intellectual property law and
corporate law. Qualifications: B.Com. LL.B., MA
(Economics),
Taimur A. Mirza: Taimur A. Mirza is a
Barrister of the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn, London and an
Advocate of the High Court. He is a
partner of the firm and possesses extensive experience in contentious
and corporate and commercial legal work in the areas on company law,
antitrust law, tobacco control legislation, mergers and acquisitions,
intellectual property law, banking and finance law, international law etc. Taimur A. Mirza has
advised various corporate businesses in areas of mergers, acquisitions,
antitrust/competition law and also international law. He has advised
pharmaceutical companies in areas of competition law and has obtained
the highest number of premerger approvals from the Competition
Commission of Pakistan for various international pharmaceutical
companies and their Pakistani subsidiaries such as GlaxoSmithKline, Stiefel, Aspen Global, Bristol-Myers Squibb etc. He has also
represented 12 commercial banks of Pakistan i.e. Allied Bank Limited,
Habib Bank Limited, MCB Bank Limited, United Bank Limited, Faysal Bank
Limited Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation Pakistan, Saudi Pak
Bank Limited, Soneri Bank Limited, Crescent Commercial Bank Limited,
Emirates Global Islamic Bank Limited, NIB Bank Limited, Dubai Islamic
Bank (Pakistan) Limited; before the Competition Commission of Pakistan
against charges of collusive practices and cartelization.
Taimur
A. Mirza has also been involved in the review and drafting of a credit
reporting regulation for Afghanistan’s Central Bank (Da Afghanistan
Bank) under the initiative of the International Finance Corporation of the
World Bank Group. He has also prepared
a consultation paper on the regulatory and legislative framework for the
regulation of credit information sharing and reporting in Afghanistan
for the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group. In the area of
tobacco control legislation, he has advised two multinational tobacco
companies on the legal framework governing cigarette marketing and sale
in Afghanistan. He has also advised a multinational tobacco company in
respect of health warning legislation applicable in Pakistan and also on
the law applicable on export of tobacco products to Afghanistan and GCC
countries from Pakistan. Taimur A. Mirza has
also advised a consortium of banks regarding the legal framework
governing the demerger of a leading fertilizer manufacturing company of
Pakistan and its likely outcome and impact on the finance facilities
extended to such companies by the consortium of banks. He also
possesses particular expertise in power and energy litigation and has
been involved in various contentious matters pertaining to power projects
including breach of power purchase agreements, breach of operations and
maintenance contracts for power utility companies, breach of
intellectual property rights of enterprise wide ERP systems implemented
in a power utility company, etc.
